September 28, 2017 – Health experts and people impacted by the disease of addiction have been invited to the White House for a discussion about how to address the epidemic.
First Lady Melania Trump will host Thursday’s event to raise awareness for opioid addiction has communities struggle to curb the crisis, according to CBS3.
Earlier this year, the President’s Commission on Combating Drug Abuse and the Opioid Crisis, led by New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to declare a national emergency to address the epidemic. However, not formal declaration has been made by President Donald Trump.

“The opioid crisis is the deadliest epidemic in American history, and it is getting worse,” [spokeswoman for Mrs. Trump, Stephanie] Grisham said in an email. “It affects children of all ages, even before they are born. As a mother, and as first lady, she is anxious to use her platform to help.”
Grisham added that the first lady is focused on the overall well-being of children.
