National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 28

October 20, 2017 – Americans who have unused or expired medication are invited to safely discard those drugs next week during the 14th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration periodically promotes the event to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs to educate the public about the potential for abuse as the opioid epidemic continues to take its toll on citizens.

You can find a collection site near you here.

The previous Take Back Day, which occurred on April 29, 2017, collected a total of 450 tons (900,386 pounds) of medication. That amount includes 37,889 pounds in Pennsylvania, 15,939 pounds in New Jersey and 5,211 pounds in Delaware.
