The Malvern Institute Intensive Outpatient Program for alcohol, substance dependence or abuse, and problem gambling is a multifaceted treatment program with an educational component. The programs highly trained counselors develop goals based on individualized needs. These goals utilize each individual’s strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences to attain and maintain sobriety, develop a support network, and move through the process of change.

Malvern institute provides simultaneous treatment of both the co-occurring disorder (s) and substance abuse/addictions in order to generate the most effective outcomes for treatment outcomes.

Group therapy functions to promote change and recovery through interaction with other recovering individuals. Through the group process and peer support, patients are encouraged to confront their issues and consequences of addiction in their lives. Individual therapy (scheduled as needed during IOP) provides the opportunity for the client to address significant and important personal issues pertaining to their addiction and in many cases their co-occurring disorders.

Malvern institute takes a holistic approach to the treatment of addiction and any concurrent issues including addressing areas such as nutrition, exercise,  anxiety, depression, anger and stress management as well as other areas that are identified during the treatment and assessment process.

Chemical dependency has a profound effect on the family system and relationships. The family component of care includes a multifamily group, educating family members about the disease of addiction. Family members are encouraged to participate in support groups such Al-anon and Nar-anon.

The Intensive Outpatient Program utilizes psychoeducation to provide clients with the basic tools of recovery. Lectures and group discussions foster the development of coping skills and strategies to maintain successful recovery. Each client who successfully completes the IOP program develops an aftercare plan and completes an aftercare workbook exclusively developed by Malvern Institute to aid in continued progress on goals after discharge.
