Local families attend candlelight vigil for drug overdose victims

September 1, 2017 — A large crowd of people whose lives were impacted by the drug epidemic attended a candlelight vigil sponsored by Malvern Institute and the Delaware County/Chadds Ford Chapter of Kacie’s Cause on Thursday night to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day.

Nearly 200 people gathered to remember loved ones who have died and support those who are living in recovery. Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan and Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood also spoke at the event.

The Delco Times reported on the important occasion:

Following a balloon release, the names of 84 individuals were read aloud, beginning with Kacie Rumford – a 23-year-old Chester County woman who died of a heroin overdose in 2013. Her father, Andy, began the original chapter of Kacie’s Cause to spread the word about the devastating effects of heroin use, turning his grief outward to help others.

FOX29 ran a feature too:

If you or a loved one are living with addiction and have any questions about the Malvern Intervention Services or the Malvern 90-Day Model, please give us a call at 610.MALVERN (610.625.8376).
