Pa. first responders getting $5 million worth of opioid-overdose antidote

Law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians and other first responders in Pennsylvania will be equipped with more of the life-saving antidote that reverses the effects of opioids.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced the state has secured $5 million to provide naloxone, also known as Narcan, to help victims of opioid overdose.

“Naloxone, a life-saving medication, is making a difference in the heroin and opioid epidemic in Pennsylvania and why I included funding for it in my 2017-18 budget,” Wolf said. “This program will create a fast, efficient means of getting these life-saving kits in the hands of first responders; those people on the front line of the epidemic, and responsible not only for saving lives, but getting people into treatment via the warm handoff program, and ultimately into recovery.”

The funding will provide 60,000 naloxone kits over the next two years and each of the state’s 67 counties will determine where the kits will be most effectively deployed.

Malvern is also dedicated to community outreach and provides naloxone training at public forums. Our staff offers unrivaled knowledge on treating the disease of addiction, family roles and relationships in recovery, as well as Medicated Assistance Treatment (MAT).

If you or a loved one are living with addiction and have any questions about the Malvern Intervention Services or the Malvern 90-Day Model, please give us a call at 610.MALVERN (610.625.8376).
